There are few people who don't like
Pink Floyd, the British group that managed to combine accessible psychedelia with strong songs like no other. Connoisseurs will have their favourite Pink Floyd period, such as the early days with
Syd Barrett, the experimental space rock of the early 70s or the theatrical concept albums after their breakthrough album
The Dark Side Of The Moon (1973). All those
… phases are featured on this colorful and rich French compilation album Pink Floyd In Jazz. A diverse group of mainly European jazz musicians get to work with the best of Pink Floyd. This leads for instance to a swing version of Another Brick In The Wall (Gero Koerner Trio) or Have A Cigar as a worn-out jazz ballad (Ulita Knaus). Heavier pieces like Set The Controls To The Heart Of The Sun (Laurent Fickelson & Stéphane Belmondo) and Us And Them (David Neerman) are given long post-bop arrangements. The vocal Any Colour You Like (Voices On The Dark Side) is particularly special. You won't be bored for a moment with this colourful and loving tribute. (MR)more
