Few musicians play bossa nova in Brazil. A big difference with Europe and North America, where this tropical cool jazz is still very popular. And when Dutch artists choose to faithfully reproduce this music, then the genre certainly has the future. The young Sensuàl has already released two successful albums and their penultimate album Salve (2008) was rewarded with an Edison Jazz Award. This
… election is understandable, because Sensuàl makes warm music that will certainly appeal to a wide group of listeners. The title Trinta ('thirty' in Portuguese) refers to the age of the band members and the difficulties you encounter around that year of life. You don't hear anything about that in the music, because it sounds extremely smooth. Singer Eva Kieboom performs all songs in flawless Portuguese. With the translation of a poem by Huub Oosterhuis, in the song Sabe De Mim, she also adds a little Dutch dash to their tasteful Brazilian cocktail. (PdK)more
