Dilana Smith was born on August 10, 1975 in Johannesburg. At the age of sixteen she went to study drama at the University of Pretoria, after which she formed her first band, Wozani. With this band she scored a number one hit in South Africa with Dancing In The Moonlight. After five years with performances in clubs and festivals in South Africa, she moved to the Netherlands. Here she and her new band
… Caz do many gigs in the club circuit, drawing the attention of various record companies. In May 1999 she is called by producer Erwin Musper to ask if she would like to record a duet with former Sleez Bleez drummer and composer Jan Koster. This collaboration appears to be such that the two decide to do more together. The result is the Wonderfool album, which contains mostly compositions by Koster. On this varied record, Dilana Smith shows off her considerable talents as a rock singer in radio-friendly mid-tempo rock songs such as Do You Know and To All Planets. The latter is the theme of the Dutch feature film Lek. Songs like The Elvis Motor Inn, Breakfast In Central Park, Solo (with familiar sounding U2 guitar riffs), the punky PMS (Pack My Suitcase) and the dark I Wish You Luck sound a bit tougher and fatter. With When You're Around she makes a trip to country rock. Secret Of My Soul and The Great Escape are the acoustic resting points on this convincing CD.
