The Finnish five piece Him is considered a goth (ic) rock band. Their previous album Razorblade Romance caused a modest breakthrough, mainly because it contained the hits Join Me and Wicked Game (Chris Isaak). Both songs were pleasant rockers and also on the rest of the record there was enough material to keep the tough image of the gentlemen intact. Things are different with their new CD Deep
… Shadows and Brilliant Highlights. The ten songs are unfortunately all very predictable and singer Ville Valo does not convince with his newly adapted whiny ballad voice. Of the songs that can be heard on Deep Shadows and Brilliant Hightlights, none really excels. Or it must be in a negative sense, because no one is waiting for songs like In Job And Sorrow and Close To The Flame. Unfortunately, it must be concluded that Him on Deep Shadows and Brilliant Hightlights gives the impression of a colorless pop band. (RWK)more
