In 1999, the Zeeland foursome Racoon released their debut Till Monkeys Fly, which was highly regarded both in the charts (the single Feel Like Flying) and among national critics. Racoon understands the art of making songs and does it in a very unique way. Singer and eye-catcher Bart van der Weide can be recognized out of thousands with his fresh, screaming boyish voice and ditto image. With a
… disarming, cheerful kind of naivety, he sings about the simple things in life: going to the pub, the stupidity of smoking and the behavior of fanatic fans. On Here We Go, Stereo! Racoon continues on this path. The songs take a bit more time to take root (read: are a bit less catchy) but they sound a lot more mature. The band uses more and more effects such as an exaggerated heavy rock guitar, a Beatlesque harmonium part and a subtle dynamic that gives the songs more depth. A real step further, and very successful because this album cannot be put off anymore. (BP)more
