The album The Miseducation Of Lauren Hill (1999) was a commercial and artistic breakthrough for the ex-singer of the Fugees. On that record she mixed hip-hop, R&B, soul and pop into a unique style of her own. It earned her no less than five Grammies. That the enormous fame has had a considerable impact, we hear on her new album MTV Unplugged 2.0. In the songs and in the announcements in between,
… she talks about her life and personal development in recent years. The sparingly arranged songs - only Lauryn on vocals and guitar - are well worth a look. However, the outpourings between the songs really get the momentum out of the record. Without that chatter this would have been a strong CD, instead of an overly long double CD. (MS)more
