We still know rap metal company Crazy Town from the world hit Butterfly (1999) and the colorful video clip, in which the heavily tattooed group members skipped after butterflies and flower girls. While this single was mainly based on hip hop, the rest of the group's oeuvre also has some heavy metal influences. The successor to the successful debut album (The Gift Of Game, 1999) offers few musical
… surprises. At most you can hear that the band has toured intensively. No more samples are used and Crazy Town sounds more than ever like a tight band. The record starts with three solid melodic rock songs, after which the gear shifts to a lower gear with more groovy songs like Change and Candy Coated, which refers to the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The music on Darkhorse sounds friendlier and more melodic than the majority of nu-metal but at the same time it is a lot louder than the average rock band. Occasionally this leads to music that is 'neither meat nor fish', at other times Crazy Town does combine the best of both worlds. (MS)more
