The only constant in the history of the Scottish group The Waterboys is singer / songwriter Mike Scott, the man who was also responsible for the only big hit of the group. The Whole Of The Moon (1985) is a true classic that still regularly returns in nostalgic radio programs. Meanwhile, the line-up of the group has changed several times. In the case of drummer Kevin Wilkinson, this had a tragic
… cause: he committed suicide in 1999. At Universal Hall, Scott is accompanied by a new group, with violinist the only veteran. His playing gives the twelve beautiful, new songs the familiar, melancholic Waterboys sound. With his soft vocals and spiritual lyrics, Scott occasionally reminds us of : also such a viewfinder. Universal Hall generally has a subdued atmosphere, only in Seek The Light there is some experimentation with electronics and rock guitars: daring but also a bit out of place between the rest of the songs. It is the only blemish on a nice listening record. (MS)more
