Sergeant Petter is the stage name of Petter Folkedal from Bergen, Norway. It's A Record (2003) is his debut album. He can count on a lot of attention from the media, but not only because of his americana-oriented music. Sergeant Petter is the first foreign artist on the very Dutch Excelsior label, which normally only releases 'alternative quality doll' by Dutch artists such as Daryll-Ann, Johan and
… Caesar. Fortunately, Sergeant Petter is more than an Excelsior publicity stunt, because It's A Record has enough qualities to stand on its own. Anyone who should think the opening song Let's Play In D-Major is dealing with a pure Americana CD, but after that it goes in all directions musically and alternative guitar pop and funk can be heard just as well. Sergeant Petter is certainly versatile, which sometimes makes him think of Beck or Badly Drawn Boy. Excelsior has made a successful trip abroad with Sergeant Petter. (IV)more
