British singer-songwriter Nick Drake made a total of three records before he died of an overdose of antidepressants in November 1974. His albums Five Leaves Left (1969), Bryter Layter (1970) and Pink Moon (1972) received little attention from contemporaries, one of the reasons for Drake's depression and the resulting low productivity. In addition, he invariably did not feel like giving performances,
… so reaching a larger audience was not possible. It is only after his death that Drake's work is recognized and a large fan base. Countless artists from a much younger generation cite Drake's vulnerable listening songs as an important source of inspiration. Made To Love Magic (2004) is a special one of the posthumously released compilations, bootlegs and reissues. because apart from alternative versions of well-known material (new arrangements, demo versions) the CD contains one completely new song. Drake's then engineer John Wood listened back to recordings from their last recording session in 2003 and discovered Tow The Line, a song that had always been overlooked before. It was the very last song Nick Drake ever recorded and can now be heard for the first time. (IV)more
