Italian songwriter, singer and guitarist Zucchero Fornaciari is considered one of the greatest blues rock artists worldwide. Not only by fans, but also by fellow musicians. Zucchero only has to ask if it happens: in recent decades many greats have turned out to be happy to work with the man. The album Zu & Co. is an impressive sequence of duets by Zucchero with stars such as Sting, Macy Gray,
… Sheryl Crow, Eric Clapton, Tom Jones, Paul Young, Brian May, Luciano Pavarotti and Andrea Bocelli. A compilation album with old recordings? No, because the 18 tracks have either never been released before, or re-recorded or provided with contemporary arrangements. And it includes two new songs. Nevertheless, the CD looks like a Best Of album with Zucchero highlights. My favorite ballads are Dune Mosse (with Miles Davis), Hey Man (with BB King) and the classic Senza Una Donna (with Paul Young). Heavy rock songs that you have to dance on include Mama Get Real (with dance music DJ producer Mousse T.), A Devil In Me (with Solomon Burke) and Il Mare (with Brian May). An 'allstars' album of great quality! Zucchero & Co has also been released with a mistake of personality that may be of interest to the Dutch. Instead of Sheryl Crow, Zucchero now sings the song Blue with our Ilse DeLange. A nice initiative, because the voices of Zucchero and DeLange do indeed sound great together.
