Although Australian singer Kylie Audist can handle any genre, her preference is for soul and funk. In her homeland she reinforced national legends such as Renee Geyer and Jimmy Barnes with her backing vocals, until funk formation The Bamboos took her to England in 2007 to introduce her to the funk scene. Made Of Stone, like her debut Just Say (2008), is produced by Bamboos frontman Lance Ferguson.
Made Of Stone opens with the smashing retro funk of the title track and It's On, before moving at a slower pace into the beautiful songs In A Week In A Day and I Will, which Auldist wrote especially for her two sons. We have now reached soul and are moving on to northern soul, ballads and reggae. Auldist lacks volume here and there, but this is more than offset by the wonderful melodies it produces. A singer to keep an eye on. (AD)more
