Racoon is the perfect example of a traditional song band. In the arrangements everything that is superfluous is omitted, in search of the essence of the song. That works perfectly if the song is good, with a lesser brother boringness is lurking. The great success of the album Another Day (2005), with the hit Love You More, was not equaled with the successor Before You Leave, perhaps because too much
… was played it safe. Live At Chassé Theater proves that Racoon has no trouble at all to live up to the performance level of the studio albums on stage. But it also shows that too little variation is disastrous for a concert. Only the most fanatic fans are still fascinated after five songs at the same tempo and instrumentation. Fortunately, the solid craftsmanship of the Zeelanders also produces good moments. How Racoon seamlessly blends the well-known song Blackbird (by The Beatles) into their own Laugh About It is admired. (MS)more
