Joe Sumner would probably be the ideal conversation partner for people like Babette van Veen, Jordi Cruijff and Jakob Dylan. … third record of Fiction Plane is called Sparks and the sparks do indeed fly off from time to time. Thunderous drums and angular guitars rush towards the listener and you would almost forget the family ties of the lead singer and give Fiction Plane a fair chance. Unfortunately Sparks also contains a lot of songs that almost immediately remind you of papa's band with their reggae influences and high vocals. Sparks is not a bad CD, but it is almost impossible to listen to it without prejudice. Fiction Plane is trapped and the police have long since lost the key to the cell door. (JE)more
