Lissie's name has been around for a while. Clips where she undresses the pop songs of Lady Gaga and Kid Cudi and provides them with rootsy drama were a hit on YouTube. High time to debut with self-written material at the age of 28. Lissie ordered no fewer than three producers to provide her songs with a clear sound. Elisabeth Maurus, as she is officially called, seems to be focusing mainly on the
… British market with this album. Her songs float above the Atlantic Ocean: they have that English pop feeling, but Lissie does sing them with a nasal-sounding American gasp. Lissie makes a good impression with a sound that is sometimes reminiscent of Fleetwood Mac, another group that tried to unite the best of both worlds. 'A present day icon' as the sticker on the cover of the CD promises, Lissie is not yet, but the radio-friendly pop rock with scraps of country and blues is food for a wide audience. We will certainly hear more from this lady. (PdK)more
