Like no other, Duran Duran seems to benefit from the nostalgic feelings of a generation of thirties. The British group, immensely popular in the eighties, will again tour full stadiums in America and Europe in 2011. The sales of albums like All You Need Is Now are still lagging behind. Yet this thirteenth album can certainly be heard. A song like Girl Panic would have suited the debut of Rio so much
… and it should come as no surprise that the well-known director Jonas Åkerlund already offered to shoot a video for this song. In any case, Duran Duran can do a generous grab in the reservoir of talented fans, who are lining up to work with their childhood heroes. Star producer Mark Ronson wrote six songs and naturally produced the record. Two other thirties, Kelis and Ana Mitronic (Scissor Sisters), make an exciting vocal contribution. Duran Duran inspires and also proves that it has more to offer than slavishly serving up their old hits. (PdK)more
