In 1965, major beat bands such as The Beatles, The Who and The Kinks stood with one leg in the now traditional sounding uptempo beat music, while the other eagerly sought musical expansion. For example, The Kinks took the first steps towards a broader sound on their second album Kinda Kinks from that year with the drawling and slow Tired Of Waiting For You and the folky and melancholic Nothin 'In
… The World Can Stop Me Worryin' About That Girl. But in 1965, making albums was also often a rush job, in between exhausting tours. Kinda Kinks suffers from this with a lot of fillers, including covers like Dancing In The Street and the unremarkable blues song Naggin 'Woman. Also on this Deluxe Edition, the listener is reminded that Kinda Kinks is not known as a milestone. But a lot is now being made up for with the packed bonus CD which includes mono versions of timeless singles like Set Me Free and See My Friends. In 1965 the best songs were mainly on singles and EPs and this informative and beautifully designed piece of music history testifies to this. (MR)more
