Frédérique Spigt from Rotterdam has been a 'busy bee' in the music world for quite some time. In the eighties, Spigt appears on stage for the first time as lead singer of the band I've Got The Bullets. However, the rock band did not last long and was disbanded after three years. Spigt tries again with a new band, this time called A Girl Called Johnny. In 1993 she is the support act for Deep Purple
… in the Rotterdam Ahoy, but again there are no successes. Five years later, Spigt breaks through as a solo artist when she participates in the National Song Contest. Since then she has made eight albums, seven of which are Dutch. With the release of Land, a long-cherished dream comes true for Spigt: namely to make an English-language folk-like country blues album. The album consists of sixteen strong songs in which Spigt with her raw voice sounds a bit like the Dutch, female version of Bob Dylan. For example, when listening to this album, nobody will imagine themselves in Rotterdam, but somewhere in a deserted place in the United States. (BvdV)more
