In 2005 Tom Smith (Editors) and Andy Burrows (including Razorlight) meet each other at the English Glastonbury Festival. That meeting turns out to be the basis for a special friendship that resulted in the album Funny Looking Angels. … inspiration for Funny Looking Angels in the summer is striking, because the album has Christmas as the main theme. Nonetheless, Smiths & Burrows have managed to deliver an excellent album that is nowhere reminiscent of the sugary Christmas carols that dominate the radio around December. Although the majority of the songs consist of covers, the duo also wrote four new songs: The atmospheric songs When The Thames Froze, As The Snowflakes Fall, the nostalgic This Ain't New Jersey and the fully instrumental Rosslyn. Smiths & Burrows saved the gem on Funny Looking Angels for the end. On this beautiful subdued closing track The Christmas Song they are assisted by the Danish singer Agnes Obel. (BvdV)more
