There are actually two incarnations of Lynyrd Skynyrd: the group that was active until 1977 and the group after 1987. Important caesura was the plane crash of '77 in which half of the band was killed. Guitarist Gary Rossington is the only one to survive all the lineups. … Bon Jovi-esque 'power ballads' such as Ready To Fly and Something To Live For, where Donnie van Zant sings with a heavy gasp in his voice. You gotta love that. Fortunately there are also a number of strong songs. First of all the title track and also the One Day At The Time, which is decorated with a cool slide guitar. Last Of A Dyin 'Breed isn't Skynyrd's greatest album, but it sure has its moments. (PdK)more
