Mumford & Sons formed the basis of a large-scale revival of folk music with their debut record (2009). Despite the band's worldwide fame with the album, a much-heard criticism was that Sigh No More occasionally sounded a bit messy and unbalanced. Those teething problems have now been cured, because the long-awaited successor Babel is many times stronger. This album is in fact one whole from the
… opening song of the same name to the beautiful closing track Not With Haste. In between, Marcus Mumford and his 'sons' take the listener back to the sixties and seventies, when folk music was rampant. Beautifully modest rippling folk is interspersed with delicious pistils, of which I Will Wait is the absolute highlight. With Babel, Mumford & Sons can again travel the world with peace of mind. Because both young and old fans of folk music will welcome this accessible successor to Sigh No More with open arms. (BvdV)more
