Since her departure from the Finnish symphonic metal band in 2005, soprano singer Tarja Turunen has not been able to find her way as a solo artist without a struggle. On her first album (2007) she almost flew with a screeching load of orchestras, metal guitars and choirs while her second album (2010) sounded unbalanced despite attempts to break through that obligatory symphonic metal. … now found her form on Colors In The Dark. To begin with, that has everything to do with the impressive production of Tim Palmer ( , , ). He created a layered and dynamic sound in which orchestra and metal band complement each other organically. Above all, this gives Tarja space not to constantly have to sing against the rocks, but also to use the warmer regions of her voice. Carried is her cover of 's Darkness. Of course the bombast reigns from the opening bolero of Victim Of Ritual, after all, that is Tarja's trademark. But strong songs and her powerful voice did not come into their own as well as on Colors In The Dark. (MR)more
