De Toekomst Is Van Ons is Gers Pardoel's second album and this is the logical sequel to This World Is Van Jou (2011). Quite a few television and festival appearances later, Gers Pardoel is a well-known Dutchman, but that has not resulted in creative freedom. It seems that commercial and business pressures have forced him to follow the line of his debut. Gers does not really surprise, throws haphazard
… expressions and speaks more about profundity than he is actually profound. He raps to simple, mega cheerful tunes about everyday things and then brings tension into it at rare points. So have tracks like My Mother Said, Gratitude and Who Write Who Luckily remains a bit more involved and that is a relief between the sing-along songs for children and the obligatory 'I go to the club' tracks. These memorable moments indicate that there was more to it. (GL)more
