For some time it was quiet around David Gray, because after the poorly received Foundling from 2010, the Briton seemed a bit lost. Four years later he is back with the striking Mutineers, on which we hear Gray as most know him, with a sound that matches the successful 1998 album White Ladder. It sounds a lot more mature, but the beautiful narratives on Mutineers show a Hear Gray as we haven't heard
… in ages. Determined and contemporary. For his tenth studio album, he enlisted the help of producer Andy Barlow, who especially knows how to give the subdued songs that little bit extra. The result is dreamy melancholic tracks like Last Summer and Birds Of The Hight Arctic. But also a cheerful Gray knows how to entertain, for example with the cheerful Cake And Eat it. Mutineers seems to be a turning point in the career of Gray, who has completely rediscovered himself with this album. (BvdV)more
