In 2014 it will be exactly one hundred years ago that the First World War broke out. Especially in Belgium and Great Britain, the impact of this Great War was much more severe than the Second World War. In both countries, Ypres (Ypres in English) is the symbol of the horrors of the war. The city was completely destroyed and an estimated half a million soldiers perished in the trenches a few kilometers
… from Ypres. The rebuilt medieval cloth hall of Ypres now houses In Flanders Fields, one of the most important museums about WWI. On the occasion of the commemoration year, Tindersticks was asked to write music that could be shown continuously at several installations in the museum. Ypres collects these six oppressive, instrumental soundscapes. This is music that conveys the misery of the war in an impressive way. (PdK)more
