After years of relying on making pure organic music, it is finally time for The Souljazz Orchestra to innovate. To this end, they stormed a shop for vintage musical instruments and bought some analog synthesizers and drum computers from the 1980s. As a result, their originally African music is nowadays mixed with influences from disco, boogie and electro. For example, Under Burning Skies opens with
… the infectious funky disco from Dog Eat Dog, which also features a fierce piece of social criticism. The disco continues on Is Yeelyel, Oublier Pour Un Jour and Adawe Boogie. Lufunki is experimenting with electro in a way that tastes like more. There are also trips to latin and zouk to be found. Hopefully The Souljazz Orchestra will expand on these experiments in the future, as they are an interesting extension of the band's sound. (AD)more
