On their second album, Orgel Vreten has grown in every way. This Dutch quintet around Hammond organists Thijs Schrijnemakers and Darius Timmer has worked on a solid live reputation since its foundation in 2011. With the screeching, tearing and trembling Hammond duels between Schrijnemakers and Timmers, they effortlessly turn every hall upside down. But the band can also rock and swing relentlessly,
… as can be heard on their debut (2015). After some personnel changes and the addition of sousaphone player and singer Arno Bakker, the band took it easy to think about a successor. The Man & His Machine thus sounds more thoughtful than Komrad. Spacey melodies dominate, sometimes even nodding to Joe Meek's vintage alien productions. The organs, but also old synthesizers and drum computers, serve a retro-futuristic sound that does not rock and swing any less. (MR)more
