never made it a secret that his Smells Like Teen Spirit was inspired by the sound of Pixies and many hip alternative guitar band still refer to this Boston quartet in their biography. After the disbandment in 1992, the popularity of Pixies grew as never before, partly because of this. … on many festival posters, such as that of Lowlands 2005. After the Live DVD (2005) two more DVDs with approximately the same song material follow. Live At Paradise was recorded in a small home club in Boston in front of a few hundred enthusiastic audience. The Pixies don't play flawlessly, but the atmosphere is sweaty, intimate and informal. It will undoubtedly have been a historic evening there in Boston, but on the DVD this (partly due to a mediocre sound) does not come across well. The bonus material, a concert from 1986 recorded with one video camera, is of such poor quality that only die-hard fans will be able to enjoy it. Maybe Frank Black and associates should start writing new material to really rekindle the old fire. With releases like this they kill their own legend. (MR)more
