In 2006 Pink Floyd singer and guitarist David Gilmour released his third solo album On An Island. He then went on tour with the same prominent guests in his band as on the album: Phil Manzanera (Roxy Music), Rick Wright (Pink Floyd), David Crosby and Graham Nash. At the concert in the Royal Albert Hall, which forms the main part of this DVD, David Bowie and Robert Wyatt also joined this company.
Without the well-known Pink Floyd visualisations, this group of neat elderly gentlemen puts on an impressive concert, full of dreamy rock and with a leading role for Gilmour's characteristic lyrical guitar playing. Songs from On An Island are supplemented with the best of Pink Floyd (including Arnold Layne, sung by Bowie). A second DVD includes extensive documentaries about the origins of On An Island and the European tour. Great, how we get to know the company better, especially Gilmour himself, who remains all courtesy to a chance meeting with boozy Pink Floyd member Roger Waters. A British gentleman full-blown, both on and off the stage. (MR)more
