Because of the terrorist attacks during an concertin Paris on November 13, 2015, U2 had to postpone two concerts. A month later, the legendary Irish band was still in the French capital. A socially engaged group like U2 could of course not leave the events unspoken. It invited the badly traumatized Eagles Of Death Metal to play a few songs. For that reason alone, this DVD contains historical images.
The French audience and the band want to make a clear statement for freedom. U2 gives them plenty of space and even leaves the stage after a joint song. But there's more. U2 shows have been like alternative gospel services full of grotesque symbolism since the 1980s. The fans love it and it must be said: the enthusiasm of the Irish is infectious. The great thing about U2 is that it remains a small band. More than guitar, the quartet does not need bass and drums. Except a generous (or haughty) heart then. (JE)more
