Francisco Fialho was born in Portugal in 1955. His talent for singing fado singing became apparent early on. And he is not without merit as a composer of fados either. This CD contains his greatest successes. The traditional instrumental accompaniment for fado singing consists of a Portuguese guitar, or 'guitarra' (a kind of lute) that plays improvised passages against the vocal line and a viola,
… a Portuguese guitar with four to five strings, which provides the melody and the bass lines. António Carvalho plays the 'guitarra'. He is self-taught and builds his instruments himself. Alfrêdo Pena, playing the viola. He is also self-taught. The fact that the three gentlemen have been living in Germany for many decades is absolutely invisible to the music. (GO) _more
