The festive Amsterdam Klezmer Band is already known for its non-traditional renditions of klezmer and Balkan music, but on the album Blitzmash the musicians make it very colorful. Together with producer Jori Collignon (Skip & Die, Nobody Beats the Drum, C-Mon & Kypski) and many guest musicians, the band members recorded twelve dazzling songs in Utrecht's Kytopia Studios, where klezmer is
… extra spicy spiced with influences from gypsy music, jazz , bhangra, hip hop, reggae / ska, electronics & trance. Besides the compelling virtuoso instrumental playing, a lot of vocal input can be heard. It already starts with the sunny-sounding Brazilian intro of Lilian Vieira (Zuco 103), followed by the humorous Dutch-language rap of saxophonist Job Chajes with which he also steals the show on Rokjesdag and Tussen Gesterday En Today. But we also hear vocals in Ukrainian (AKB's Alec Kopyt and guest Yuriy Gurzhy), Turkish (Orhan Osman, Kivilcim), Moroccan (Samira Dainan) and English (Cata.Pirata). Instrumental guest musicians include saxophonist Benjamin Herman, trumpet player Kyteman and the Pauni Trio. Blitzmash is buzzing with 21st century klezmer! (SvdP)more
