The Charivari Trio was created in 1986 during a theater production and consists of violinist Anneke Frankenberg, accordionist Bart Lelivelt and singer-bassist Gerard Schoren. The musicians are classically trained but specialize in traditional folk music. Charivari's repertoire comes largely from the geographically distant regions of Eastern Europe and South America. In addition, composers such as
… Joep Everts and Joop van Erven write music for Charivari and the trio also arranges classical music. Improvisation and variation predominate. The album Abre! shows that the original choice of mixing Eastern European and South American music produces very strong music. Guest musicians are the cimbalist Jan Rokyta and percussionist André Groen. The trio tapped musical sources from Romania for this album, Macedonia, Poland (from the Polish composer Frédéric Chopin), Moravia and from Venezuela, Argentina, Colombia and Cuba. The result is extremely varied, catchy world music. In addition to concert performances, Charivari also gives workshops. See their website: www.charivari.nl (SvdP)more
