The English answer to Elvis Presley took another picture at the age of 63. Cliff's dream was to record again on an album in Nashville, the country heart of America. He did this together with Barry Gibb and a bunch of young middle-of-the-road songwriters. It is striking that he made this album for Universal. After no less than 46 years, Richard broke with EMI, because they no longer saw any bread in
… 'Britain's best singer ever'. That is strange because Something's Going On is a good album and will certainly appeal to its regular fans. There is no question of a style break either, because this record doesn't have a real country feeling: it all sounds too neat for that. Cliff remains the ideal son-in-law and his voice has not failed him after all these years. Of course he thinks this is his best album (as every artist thinks of his latest album) and if it fails, it is his own fault, can be read in the CD booklet. Anyone who dares to take such a responsibility deserves sympathy. (JdD)more
