The single Naar het Zuiden, which he made with Paul de Leeuw, brought Fernando Lameirinhas greater fame in the Netherlands. The Portuguese singer and guitarist mixes Portuguese fado with jazz, African and Brazilian music. After the studio albums Lagrimas E Risos (1994), Vida, Vida (1997), Fadeando (1999) and O Destino (2000) a live album has now been released. The double CD is composed of recordings
… of concerts he gave between November 1997 and March 2001 in Antwerp, Amsterdam, Leiden, Zwolle and Brussels. Lameirinhas and his regular quintet are accompanied by numerous excellent musicians, including the Flemish chansonnier Raymond van het Groenewoud, the Madagascar native Régis Gizavo, the Portuguese guitarist Custódio Castelo, the violinist Monique Lansdorp and cellist Larissa Groeneveld. Lameirinhas' poetic music radiates, both from homesickness and longing and from sunny warmth. On the studio albums the music already sparkled with joie de vivre, passion and musicality, but on this live album completely. Recommended. (SvdP) _more
