The feature film Bridget Jones's Diary is a feel good movie about the relationship woes of the anti-heroine Bridget who constantly stumbles over her own problems (overweight, smoking, drinking) and ultimately has to choose between the 'good' and the 'bad' admirer. The film is based on Helen Fielding's column in the British newspaper The Independent, which was filmed by documentary filmmaker Sharon
… Maguire, starring Hugh Grant and Renee Zellweger. The accompanying soundtrack is intended to quote Bridget's diary 'all occasions, especially most romantic situations'. Unfortunately, the compilers thought of dated soft pop, including All By Myself (Jamie O'Neill), Someone Like You (Dina Carroll) and I'm Every Woman (Chaka Khan). Aretha Franklin's chewed women's battle song Respect is also being mothballed for the umpteenth time. The soundtrack is therefore an album that is really only interesting for the most fanatic Bridget fan. (BP)more
