Peter Beets is a Dutch pianist who already attracted attention at a young age with his Beets Brothers. A conservatory training and various prizes followed, which then opened doors at many stages and at record label Criss Cross. Beets recorded several well-received trio CDs in New York with American bassists such as Larry Grenadier and Reginald Veal and drummers Willie Jones III and Herlin Riley.
For his latest CD, Beets, in imitation of his hero Oscar Peterson, chose a different kind of trio, namely that of piano, guitar and double bass. New Groove features two of these combinations, a Dutch one with guitarist Martijn van Iterson and bassist Ruud Jacobs and a US version with Joe Cohn on guitar and Reuben Rogers on bass. Both groups guarantee subtly swinging interpretations of standards such as You're My Everything and Three Little Words, nice jazz blues in Nat Cole's Easy Listening Blues and Beets' own Blues For Giltay.
