Alto saxophonist Susanne Alt (her real name) was born in Germany in 1978. From an early age she studied classical piano and guitar before switching to her current instrument at the age of twelve. After an intensive study at the Meistersinger Conservatory in Nürnberg, she won the International Siemens Prize For Young Talent in 1996, after which she packed her suitcase and studied until 2000 at the
… Conservatory of Hilversum under Ferdinand Povel and Jasper Blom. In the Netherlands she took the opportunity to gain as much experience as possible. She has played with various musicians such as Rosa King, Roots Riders (Tribute To Bob Marley), the orchestra of Ivo Niehe's Theater Show, Willeke Alberti and DJs such as Erick E, Roog, Promiss, Ronald Molendijk, Graham B, DJ Maestro and Wicked Jazz Sounds. However, her preference is for funk. Unlike Candy Dulfer, her inspiration does not lie with Maceo Parker and David Sanborn, but she has developed her own style. That she has a preference for ex-wind instruments of James Brown is evident from the guest contributions that trombonist Fred Wesley takes care of. (AD)more
