On (2012) Lindi Ortega largely dropped the traditional sound with which she flourished at the beginning of her career and on Tin Star she continues that line. Her third studio album is full of spicy country, with a hint of pop here and there. Despite not lacking talent and making an increasingly accessible sound, Ortega is still one of the best kept Canadian secrets. With Tin Star she carefully
… puts herself in the spotlight in her neighboring country, partly because the album was recorded in Nashville. The typical Nashville sound is therefore echoed in the eleven predominantly rousing country songs. Ortega - who starts to sound more and more like in its heyday - swings to songs like Gipsy Child and Voodoo Mama, shows herself vulnerable on the beautiful title track and does not hide her desires in the loving I Want You. Tin Star is a great country record and has everything it takes to force Ortega's well-deserved breakthrough. (BvdV)more
