With his third CD, E, or Mark Everett, the man behind Eels, has pretty much overcome the worst problems (the suicide of his sister, an incurably ill mother) that made Electro-shock Blues such a sad plate was. He sounds a lot more cheerful on Daisies Of The Galaxy, but that does not mean that it is a happy record. Especially the melancholy ballads and E's pathetic voice create an oppressive atmosphere.
However, it is made more bearable by its dry humor, the beautiful supercooled arrangements and beautiful songs such as Grace Kelly Blues, The Sound Of Fear, A Daisy Through Concrete and Jeannie's Diary. (WvdZ)more
