Because Beck saw his previous CD as a snack himself, his new album can be seen as the real successor to Odelay. Midnite Vultures is in many ways like that masterful record from 1996; the blues, country and folk roots are still clearly audible and the songs are again full of different sounds from the sampler and computer. The big difference between the two records is the fact that this time Beck
… has emphasized soul and especially funk, as opposed to the more hip-hop-like Odelay. The influences of and can be heard in, for example, Nicotine & Gravy, Mixed Bizniss, Get Real Paid and the sexy soul ballad Debra. Midnite Vultures may not be as surprising as , but at least as good, danceable and entertaining. (WvdZ)more
