The Limburg singer and songwriter Jack Poels sings in a hard rock band until 1985, when he jokingly records a carnival single with his mates. He realizes that this hoempa music has a relationship with the tex-mex of a band he just discovered: Los Lobos. He names his new band Rowwen Hèze, after a famous local eccentric and focuses from now on songs in his native language. With success, songs like
… Bestel Mar, De Neus Umhoeg and Limburg (with the Metropole Orchestra) are now part of the national heritage. On the ninth album Dageraad there are again thirteen strong songs in the familiar musical idiom, with occasional trips to ska (Vur De Kerk Op 't Plein) and country (Dichtbeej). The closing track Licht Op de Lakes is a successful adaptation of Morning Has Broken by Cat Stevens.
