The American singer Sheryl Crow learned the trade as a background singer from, among others, Michael Jackson and only made her debut at the age of thirty-one with Tuesday Night Music Club ('94). She never made bad records, but it seemed that after the very strong Sheryl Crow ('96) and The Globe Sessions ('98) the holy fire had disappeared. C'mon C'mon ('02) was a pleasant but also somewhat superficial
… rock album and Wildflower continues that trend. The album is too neatly produced to excite and some songs sound like lesser variations on existing songs. Crow sings beautifully at times, but there are just too few songs like the beautiful and melancholic Perfect Lie. A little more adventure and inspiration would have been welcome. (MS)more
