The pop world would look a lot grayer without Robbie Williams, the former singer of the boy group Take That who effortlessly and in his own and often incorrect way became a solo star. His life as a hedonistic 'bad boy' is the main subject of his songs and clips peppered with sex, humor and style. On his sixth album, he once again does not mince words, right from the opening line. In a song like Make
… Me Pure he looks for more depth and even a certain redemption. This thirst for depth is certainly reflected in the predominantly strong compositions, including a number of mid-tempo ballads in which Williams switches effortlessly to head voice. Maybe he is slowly on the way to a more serious approach to his life and work, but in the majority of the songs on this great pop album that is (luckily) not that far.more
