Five O'Clock Heroes is the band of Briton Antony Ellis, who has moved to New York. Within the local climate, his music stands out for its prominent British influences, which he combined with the energy of the local, hip post-punk. Although the band initially combined the best of both worlds, it now seems to be falling between two quarters. What breaks them the most is the high retro content of the
… music, in which little more happens than ruminating examples from the past. It must be said that few are better at this, and their taste, which concentrates on the pop and new wave (Stiff!) Of the late seventies, is not bad either. And where many generation members are staring at the angular punk funk riffs from that time, Ellis shakes up one beautiful melody after another on Speak Your Language. For now, the Five O'Clock Heroes are getting the benefit of the doubt. (MS)more
