Tom Morello is best known as a guitarist with his own inimitable playing style, from supergroups such as Rage Against The Machine and Audioslave. However, he is also a politically aware person and this side is fully reflected in his alter ego The Nightwatchman. The Fabled City mainly plays pure American folk in the traditions of Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger. In eleven simple and sing-along songs,
… with combative choruses, Morello tells the story of the many injustices that can happen to the common man. He mainly accompanies himself on acoustic guitar. His sonorous, dark voice occasionally lacks the power and charisma with which Bruce Springsteen, for example, keeps this music alive. But his anger, which mainly splashed off his guitar in the aforementioned bands, he certainly knows how to convey. It is also special, how this rock star - who recently cashed in millions for a Rage Against The Machine reunion - kept her heart in the right place. (MR)more
