The release of Sticky Fingers marked a new beginning in the career of the Rolling Stones. It was the first studio album on their own label Rolling Stones Records and the first with the virtuoso guitarist Mick Taylor on board, according to many (including me) the best line-up of the band ever. With Taylor, the typical Rolling Stones sound was perfected, in which two lead guitarists played around each
… other, as it were, to build one majestic wall of sound. The riff of the opener Brown Sugar was a blueprint for that sound. But the ramshackle blues records that the young and had turned gray also offered inspiration again. Finally, Jagger and Richards had friendship with led to a genuine interest in country music, which had a tremendous impact on the songwriting skills of the Glimmer Twins, witness Wild Horses, their first foray into the genre. Finally, bonus points are for the famous cover - unfortunately without a zipper on the CD - conceived and photographed by Andy Warhol. (MS)more
