The group Sonic Youth originated in the early eighties from the New York no wave movement that expressed itself in pure noise and anti-music. But throughout the continuing career of Sonic Youth, their leader Thurston Moore developed more and more as an adequate music connoisseur who (with or without tongue-in-cheek) liked to express his admiration for diverse artists such as The Beatles, Madonna,
… The Stooges and Grateful Dead. On his solo album Demolished Thoughts, he now returns to the psychedelic folk of the early 1970s. His drawling and slightly melancholy voice and acoustic guitar dominate the calm and at times almost soothing music produced by Beck. The befriended duo turned Demolished Thoughts into an atmospheric whole that, despite a certain retro content, personal and intimate and therefore also timeless. (MR)more
