After the EPs (2011) and (2012) the dark dubstep producer Burial comes up with Truant in 2013. We may not be allowed to use the word 'dark' anymore, because Truant is more frivolous than all previous William Bevan CDs. The adventurous, sometimes even euphoric sounds make the whole a lot less depressed than before. This does not detract from the fact that there are also enough ominous passages to
… point out on this mini-album. These don't get the chance to gain the upper hand, because the music changes atmosphere very quickly, despite the unrelentingly slow tempo. Burial is changing a bit more color, even though Truant has also been put in a black cover. The variety ensures that the two songs, each good for more than eleven minutes of listening, have more to offer than the average album of Burial's colleagues. For a CD of less than half an hour that is definitely an achievement. (JE)more
