Backspaceunwind, Lamb's sixth album in almost twenty years, is a lot more restrained than its five predecessors. Nothing has changed in the spherical structure, but the instrumental explosive climaxes have been kept out this time. On the one hand, this could have to do with the impending theater tour of singer Lou Rhodes and multi-instrumentalist Andy Barlow, where the music obviously can't get too
… wild. On the other hand, this is the result of a trip to India where the two went in search of themselves. Now the lyrics of Lamb were already filled with a good portion of vagueness, but when texts are written with the help of meditation, the fence is of course completely over. Rhodes fell into a meditative trance and let thoughts and images come naturally. Anyway, Backspaceunwind is yet another beautiful album by two who may have lost their wild hair, but certainly not their sense of beauty and splendor. (AD)more
